| Leave It With Him Summary of Book One
A coming of age story set on the beautiful waterways in Washington State where crabbing and fishing are a way of life. It’s the late 1960’s and Luke, a fifteen-year-old boy grieving about his parents divorce and his mother’s serious illness, is challenged when he and his younger brother are forced to leave their Orcas Island home in the San Juan Islands and move in with their father in Olympia. Luke feels overwhelmed by the circumstances and the new decisions he must make.
Teenage life is not without its problems at this difficult age and Luke is no exception. He is faced with obstacles, and lacks spiritual leadership from his father in his teen years. In the midst of the 1960’s “free love” generation and although tempted and sometimes weak in his faith, Luke is able to continue on his walk because of his love for God, turning to God’s Word on a daily basis, praying for wisdom from God and by surrounding himself with like-minded friends.
A new high school, friends, and a new church all challenge Luke’s comfort zone, but when he has a frightening experience on a moving boat that he can’t stop, Luke learns he can’t control everything and needs to trust the Lord. Several situations in his life come right at him that will test Luke’s ability to trust in God’s promises.
Luke finds himself surrounded by all types of people—from the cute Bobbi, who is his best friend’s girlfriend, to Charlie—a disabled diabetic who owns the local marina, and fellow vocalists in the high school Madrigal group. Luke experiences being stranded on the water on a crab boat, early fall storms that come without warning, and attempts a heroic water rescue. With both Charlie’s aging and his mother’s illness, Luke learns about care giving. He treats them with love and respect, all the while allowing them their dignity.
A Christian romance novel that portrays teenage life in the late 1960’s, you will find Luke is not perfect, but an incredible teen who walks his faith on a daily basis. Through trials, doubts, loneliness, grief and disappointment, Luke must choose on a daily basis whether to rest in the grace and mercy that God has to offer or succumb to the pressures and temptations around him. Luke shows us all how good decisions can be made in the face of adversity and temptation.

Cares of This World
Some have asked will there be a second book? Are Bobbi and Luke in it? Yes, Book 2 is going to continue with Bobbi and Luke as they move into their college and adult years. There is the newly inherited marina to run, university educations to pursue, careers, and family life, all which place demands on Luke and Bobbi. Their adventures on and near the water will continue. New characters will be introduced, old ones developed, and Luke Johansen’s Norwegian heritage will be explored.
Salvation and faith will be included as key issues but the main focus will be on what happens as they move into their adult lives. Where are their priorities? Will they still allow time for the Lord? Will they jump into the rat race of everyday life and run as hard as everyone else?
